Casa hogar 'Los Gorriones' opened its doors on 5 March 2002, and is located in Vista Alegra, District Carmen Alto in Ayacucho-Perú. It shelters twenty children and by doing so, it wants to give them a loving home. Responsibility is taught to the children, while they live with others in a family-like environment. The children are being raised so as to increase any chances to future jobs.

As most kids are lagging behind mentally (e.g. by malnutrition or too few stimulation), emphasis is put on continuous stimulation and love in order to fully use their potential.
Casa hogar 'Los Gorriones' exists first and foremost to help the poorest children: children that are refused elsewhere, are welcomed with open arms in the Casa. Also disabled, very sick and weak kids, children with social and behavioural problems... etc. This requires a good support of staff.

Casa hogar 'Los Gorriones' is an alternative to classical institutes because it is one big family with children of both genders and different ages. It wants to have an added value where classical institutes are lagging behind, among others by defining an educational plan for each individual child
