VILLAGE BANKS
  ► Rural Zones

Finca PerúThirteen years ago Wiracocha and his sweet wife Morenita founded FINCA Peru.  They were motivated by love and desire to help their fellow man.  These sentiments were expressed with a great deal of faith and hope.  The founders envisioned poor families being able to have an opportunity to improve their quality of life, through a process of empowerment and the formation of a financial base FINCA Peru pioneered the village bank methodology in Peru.  They began their operations in Ayacucho, Lima, and later Huancavelica.

With the passing of time these zones developed a more dynamic economy.  The next step for Wiracocha and Morenita was to expand services in rural areas.  They wanted to help women in the countryside in their local communities.  In the area around the city of Ayacucho they formed the first rural banks.

In 2004, Morenita passed away, without a doubt her dream and vision was the guide for the expansion of the rural bank project in the zones of Ayacucho, Huancavelica, and Apurimac.

With the guidance and experience of Wiracocha FINCA Peru began preparing for the expansion of its rural banks, which would include Huancavelica, Ayacucho, and Andahuaylas.

  ► WARI PROJECT
Finca PerúWith the desire to expand services to rural communities in the region of Huancavelica, FINCA Peru established an alliance with Freedom from Hunger.  This relationship with Freedom From Hunger was integral in the preparation, initiation, and continuation of the project.

The project works in the rural areas of Huancavelica, situated on uneven, hilly terrain, with limited transportation and a decreasing population.

Before beginning FINCA Peru studied they local market, organized training and collaboration workshops, consulted with institutions specializing in rural credit, designed a new credit product better adapted to the needs of the rural population, This process was completed through a great effort on the part of the collaborators and all of the employees of FINCA Peru.

Finca PerúLater, after some arduous development work a business plan, contracts, and trainings with new collaborators had been completed.  In October Project Wari began its operations.

To overcome the access difficulty in the rural areas Project Wari is managed from a regional office in Huancavelica, and to a large part the office in Ayachucho as well.

It order to improve the efficiency of the project, FINCA Peru hired a coordinator, who, with much enthusiasm, assumed the challenge of managing this new team of collaborators until they complete their mission.

Project Wari now includes 24 village banks and 450 associates..

A fin de año el Proyecto Wari contó con 24 Bancomunales Rurales y 450 socias.
