Agrotourism started in Chichubamba in the summer of 2005 with the help of ProPeru, a local NGO based in Urubamba. The community, like many rural areas of Peru, is struggling economically. Rather than give in to this situation, though, the community coordinated and created an association to use its natural talents as a way to collectively help all of the individuals of Chichubamba.
While still early in giving agro-cultural tours of the community, the ultimate goal for the project is to be completely self-sufficient and sustainable. With your visit to Chichubamba, you will be helping the development of the town and its vision of showing visitors to Peru the way of life in the Andes.
